Understanding The Past

I opened up to an individual and attended his trial in Montana. He was accused of murdering a little girl. Some did not agree with my approach. They thought he should be denounced and reviewed my story as such. Check Reviews of 'Brand of Justice' by (ClickingHere). Read the back cover. This is where Mister Hicks shared his thoughts. As a former cop, I believe we must do what we can to avoid these incidents . . . no matter how heinous. We must live and learn.

Danny

Danny still deals with the awful reality of what he experienced to this day.

Active Shooter

Had a long discussion with Danny, who survived Columbine. Sad story. He dropped a shoe and bent to pick it up and a bullet wheezed over his head. Saved by a shoe. Kids from that day will never forget it.

Say What?

Though I walk in the shadow of the Valley of Death I shall fear no evil. Trains on the other hand are a whole nother story.

Have to cancel the Read-n-Feed in Rice Lake tonight at six. Roads are a mess. Regrets. Have not discussed rescheduling with Maureen.

Students

Had a book signing and Amanda was really struck by the issues my stories brought up. One story in particular hit her hard. She took it upon herself to design and slip these bookmarkers in books in the Student Union. I love the creativity and appreciate this effort on my behalf.

James Dean and Sammy Hagar

Sammy couldn't go 55 and neither could Jim. Guess which one learned a fatal lesson here.

Book Club Appearance

I was asked what I do when I'm in the dumps. I responded I help someone. Anyone. And ya know what? presto . . . I'm better for it!

PTSD?

Defense attorneys said Ortiz was improperly induced to make the confession and that it should not be considered. Defense attorney Joel Perez argued that Ortiz, a Navy veteran who had been deployed to Iraq, was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, had been suffering from insomnia, nightmares and headaches, and was medicated and had been drinking that night.

From Comments

I found one of your cards, and decided to give your writing a try. I kust finished The Gargoyle and really enjoyed it. I think I’ll try one of your longer books now.

Real Book

I heard you folks who like the feel of a real book. Who like to hold it. 'Stunned and Seething' has all five short stories in it. Plus . . . it's available on paper! Click&See

Of course the stories are still available on Kindles and what not.

Gotta Love Them

Great to watch younger folks call out their governments in China-Iran-Russia. Then ya have a gentleman like Navalny. Brave beyond words.

C' Mon Man

So I received the message below and was left wondering. I mean . . . which book set you off? Fair question. Right? Perhaps 'Never a Child' tripped your trigger (no pun intended). Fatima Hosseini clearly had strong feelings on the subject of religion. Let us never forget the honor of respecting others. Here is a link or hit the library for a copy.

And she finished up with this . . .

The worst advice my mother ever gave me was: Honesty is the best policy. It implied that other people are honest, which I've discovered, they're not.

Second Installment following Yesterday's Post

I wanted to teach my children: Never be loyal to any employer beyond doing the best work possible during the time you're employed, because they won't be loyal to you. It's the hardest lesson for young people to learn.

Final Advice

It was my privilege to sit down with a fine lady who was born between the Great Wars. She grew up on a dairy farm and saw to it that my patches were sewn on my uniform during my policing days. She has since passed. She said if she could do it over, she'd do it again, but more carefully. Tomorrow I'll share her second piece of advice.
