Oh for the Love of Cover Ups and you thought JusThis was fiction!

In the end, the lady who speculated that the officer drew down on himself and almost shot her husband was relieved. Usually a grandchild is with the man and would have been standing where the bullet traveled. Has anything been learned from this incident? We'll never know because we are in a 'Love of Cover Ups' state of mind. A Lieutenant resigns, he is granted a couple of months of pay to just go away silently. Gotta keep that 'Love of Cover Ups' deal going.

When Chief of Police Philipp resigned to save the Department and Community any anguish over an affair he had that was that. The Mayor said something to the affect he had been harder on himself than the Community would have been.

A Department Head stopped in two days ago and we chuckled on that account. All the money the Chief wasted, resulted in all employees having to account for their phone calls whether it was sex driven or not. He speculated Philipp wanted to get caught. I disagreed. It was an obsession that turned into an addiction. I have all of the pictures and am considering posting them for your consideration. It happened in this place and it can and does happen in your place!

Canadian's asked for It!

Ivy's Bookshop
Add caption

Winter is a great time to curl up with a book. Ivy's is now offering Brand of Justice. Back in the lower 48, Book World of Albert Lea is running a special on JusThis and Brand of Justice. Barnes and Noble has both copies of course. Now lets see . . .

I suppose we should follow up on the sordid tale of the 'Goofiest Police Shooting never Heard About' in Small-town America tomorrow. Kinda crazy, but there are Cops on the force ain't never heard about this. Just think, this shooting occurred in this day and age. Man it's a shame so much of this stuff has to be swept under the rug. Let's hope the right people on the force know about this and have made it a learning opportunity for all involved.

Austin officer, ex-NFL player, retires

“My office was a squad car,” Lt. Dave Simonson said as he cleaned out his locker - complete with a photo of his grandson, 15-year-old artwork from his kids and his coveted purple combination lock - at the Austin Police Department Wednesday.
Simonson is retiring today after 27 years at his only job ever in law enforcement.
“It's time to go,” he said. “I've got plenty of things to do.”
Although he is hanging up his badge, Simonson has left an indelible mark on his fellow police officers and will continue to do so in Austin, Capt. Curt Rude said.

Part #3 Goffiest Police Shooting never Heard About

So anyways let's see here. The wife opens the camper and looks around. She figured the cop crawled into the camper and spun around and saw an armed man facing him with a gun. It was his reflection in a full length mirror. He pops off a round, the bullet goes threw the camper wall, whizzes passed the two guys standing outside before plowing into a Volkswagen hood. I took pictures. I guess Barney Fife is alive and well. This happened in Austin Minnesota and could happen in your town.

Transparency? Na, like the Cop Investigator said, 'we don't have to say anything to anybody, do we guys?'

Any ideas what we could learn from this shooting?

Part #2 Goofiest Police Shooting never Heard About

So the cop doesn't find anyone (or as cops would say - Perps) in the camper. He crawls out of the camper and stands around with the Bondsmen. They are kinda just lookin' around but nobody brings up the shot or the fact that a Volkswagen hood was killed (joking). It doesn't seem like the polite thing to do. They just kinda kick around in the backyard hemming and hawing some. After a spell the cop and Bondsmen hit the road. The two men who had the bullet  whiz between them (missing them by inches) start to talking. Something like this . . . "What do you suppose that was all about?" "Christ a guy can get killed standing around here when Austin's finest show up." "Don't cops know how to use their guns?" "Didn't even get a I'm sorry!"

A little later a Investigator Cop (as it was explained to me) shows up. Really polite and that sort of thing. None of that "Just the facts" "I'll run ya in if you don't cooperate." Nope very polite. These two bewildered men kinda point to the bullet hole in the camper and the Volkwagon and talk some on where they were standing, that sort of thing. Then the Investigator Cop makes some really friendly chit chat and says . . . "Ahhh, will golly jeez . . . we don't probably have to say nothing about this do we guys? Do we fellas? I'm mean shucks." He shrugs his shoulders like he wants to be friends. He leaves. A wife of one of the men shows up and attempts to figure it out. I'll share her thougths in the next post.

I'll bring up your questions in future posts. We'll get through this and please be careful out there. Especially if ya live in Austin Minnesota, have a camper in your backyard, and a cop shows up. "Hands Up; Don't Shoot" doesn't appear to always work.

Goofiest Police Shooting never Heard

So I'm in Colorado chasing down the memory of Hunter Thompson. Interesting. Right? Anyways I get messaged about a shooting and I'm thinking ya-ya-ya. The gal is like . . . "This sounds like the Officer who stopped those kids in the pickup." (She was referring to a book I wrote - Brand of Justice.)

Did this really happen? I don't wanna touch it without some kind of proof. Well I get back to the Midwest and nose around a bit with questions and my trusty Canon. Oh . . . lordy . . . looks like it happened.

Bailbonds Men and an Officer (Lets keep names out of it) encounter two men in the backyard of a residence. They are looking for a gal. They ask if anyone is in there and point to a camper. "No, it's padlocked you can see." The Officer asks for permission to search it. So the officer crawls through a window while everyone else is standing outside. Suddenly a shot rings out. The hood of a Volkswagen is pierced by a round. One of the men dives to the ground and the other one hollers . . . "Are ya alright in there." The officer responds, "Yea, I'm fine."

More on this tomorrow.

JusThis being Blogged.

This received from the Pirates Book Blog. Agreed, it is a gruesome read. The issue of abuse of authority and rape was a story that was long over do. I got into the head of a rapist and it wasn't pretty.

A bucket was filled with water; another empty bucket had been attached to the crossbow's trigger after passing over the back of the chair. The crossbow was loaded with an arrow and cranked into firing position. Sounds interesting doesn't it. This story JusThis by Curt Rude is about unethical police conduct, corruption and death.

I have to admit, personally I don't like to read books with so much swearing and sex, but the author had to do character development and there was no other way to paint the picture. I followed the lives of Charlie & Agnes Pullet, and Martin & Lacy McMurphy which lead to a chain of events of corruption and sadness.

The author wrote: 'When a simple truth is revealed that might be construed as threatening, action is quickly taken to silence the voice of truth.' I am not going to give the story away, you will just have to read it and find out for yourself what he means by that. Thank You Curt Rude for a very interesting read.

Gotta Say . . . Bombs Away

Writing stories involving bombs and violence, demands ya get a little soot on your face. Many thanks to South Dakota Bob for the expert advice. Man we blew stuff from hell to breakfast (I know cliche').

I'm going to be at Book World in Albert Lea MN tomorrow from 11 to 1. Stop in for a chat, thoughts or concerns. I'll sign any and all books by-the-way. What else can I say? Damn, ya can hear the shrapnel clattering around. Didja notice the Camera Operator is behind me? This kind of thing can be stressful, but remember . . . Im'ma professional!

And you thought writing was boring . . .

Book World - Book Signing

Been invited to Book World / Northbridge Mall / 2576 Bridge Ave in Albert Lea MN. I plan to be there from 11 to 1 on Saturday. Stop in, hang out, whatever.

Iron Wood WI, middle of a winter wonderland is also in the offing. More on that later.

Another accusation of rape in the NFL. No way this fella read Brand of Justice. The arrested party had this to say . . . ''Joshua has full and confidence in the American way, including its justice system, which he pledged to protect and defend as a West Point graduate and lieutenant in the United States Army.''

Jodi Arias, Ferguson Missouri, Eric Garner & Austin Minnesota have one thing in common . . .

Lets see here now. The Judge tossed the media out of the Courtroom in the Arias case. Ferguson Missouri has a secret little 'Grand Jury' get together and now one of the jurors wants to come forward. The Beast we all loving know as the 'Judicial System' will not allow it. Apparently this juror has some concerns. Eric Garner and the choke hold. I was trained to never use it. It was called the 'LA Choke Hold' back in the day. All the cops at the scene of the Garner incident elected to not use the tactic with one lone exception. Ouch . . . Finally we have City Officials in Austin, MN deciding to not comment on just how they decided to handle a case.

Take a second to listen to this newscast. Just in from Arizona The media fought for information and won!

Haven't heard anything from the other cases. Attorneys have been plenty busy keeping info away from the public. What gives? Are things being hidden for the public good? Did Tom Jefferson have it all wrong when he said the following?

"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure." --Thomas Jefferson to Lafayette, 1823. ME 15:491

Are you feeling a certain degree of fear and loathing? Some have asked me what my inspiration has been regarding the two stories I penned. Guess it boils down to the Beast.

Back to Hernandaz

I thought it looked over-charged based on circumstantial evidence from the get go. Then the charges started flyin' towards the others in this case. Nobody turned states evidence. This includes Shayanna. Guess it'll be interesting to see this thing finally play out. What happens if he's found innocent? Does Massachusetts reimburse those tossed into a cell only to walk after a jury verdict? Remember 'The West Memphis Three'?

John Fox is fired. Peyton played with a Torn Quad.

Ahh, you heard it here first!

This was Shared by a Big-City Captain.

I can top this in spades.

I worked with a Lieutenant we called little Dickie. He was married with 4 kids and had a beautiful wife, but she had this fear of going outside her house and so for many years she never left the house, never talked to any one on the phone. Little Dickie was screwing the ears off of the Secretary in the Bureau at the same time the Captain was punching her too. It was kind of like One if by Land and Two if by Sea.

This was going on when I was first promoted to Lieutenant and Tammy heard some rumors from one of the wives that some Lieutenant was dipping his wick in the Foundation of Love and was all over my ass because she knew it was me as I had a great working relationship with Bonnie as I was the only one doing my job and running up large numbers of contacts and making her Captain look good.

Dickie then started doing one of his co-workers' wife who was a friend of Bonnie and Sue did not know she was not the first lady in Dickie's eye.

This love affair went on from 1971 until 1979 when I was a Captain and assigned back into the Bureau working for the same Captain who was now a Deputy Chief heading the Bureau. In 1981 the wheels came of the truck when another co-workers wife was found out with a Black dude was doing her and she was a Friend of Sue's. Gail divorces her Husband John and moves in with Sue who divorces her husband Roger and at this point Bonnie and Sue are both doing Little Dickie and Captain Wayne TOO. A lot of this was going on during office hours at the basement apartment of another co-workers house.

Confused? I was!?! Ya see, this kinda stuff goes on all the time.

Catchy writing style here. Agree?

Fun in the Sun

Called it right. No way the Ravens were gonna cover seven and a half, Now it's time for Denver.

Friday, January 9, 2015

Phone Calls and E-Mails . . . Trouble in the Heartland.

Phone jingles and I'm like . . . "Hello" . . . "So what the hell's goin' on with your old department Captain?" . . . "I dunno and don't much care. I'm hunten' for Hunter Thompson." . . . "Yeah whatever. Listen up for a sec. Rene' said he quit cause two women were fighten' over him and he got sick of it. He's in Rochester. Gonna work over there at that new place there puttin' up. Security. Anyways, the house is up for sale, $350,000 bucks and he's gettin' the Big D!" . . . I clear my throat. "I dunno what it matters but listen it's only gossip. Prove it." . . . Then this Investigator pauses for a moment. "You know that other investigation they had about him. That was all messed up wasn't it?" . . . "Yeah. I already talked to **** and that's what he thought. He was a cop for a long time. He should know."

Then I got to thinking. The bigger issue involves the contempt our public servants have for us, the taxpayers. The media follows suit with the whole implied consent deal that Chomsky always ranted and raved about.

Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media.
Noam Chomsky

In the end, I guess it's just water over the damn (I attribute the spelling there to a certain degree of angst). The public doesn't really care how the monies are spent and can live with the 4.5% raise in our taxes.

Then I got an email message and another call regarding police behavior in good ol' Austin, MN. To be fair . . . before I dish the 'Camper Caper' onto the blog I suppose I should have  proof. I'm guessing there is proof . . . but who knows?

"Here's your proof Captain. The for sale sign is up. Why don't ya buy it now that you're a big-shot author!"

My Thoughts regarding your Thoughts

Something doesn't smell right. Get your shiznit together APD....you're here to protect and serve! (Law Enforcement serves a critical role today as seen with what happened in Paris. With that being said we need officers to be held accountable for their actions in the interest of bettering police work. Transparency equals trust and understanding. That is why I'm kinda wondering if something 'really bad' occurred. This thought was shared with me by a current officer. This officer had no idea what was going on. How's that for a cover-up? Oh and the taxpayer pays again. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. One wonders why the media does not call upon their contracted attorney regarding matters of Data Practices.)

City Leadership (or lack their of) is due for an overhaul. (I don't figure this is the issue at all. The System needs some work though.I was advised the first go round of problems involved Officer Kline backing her squad into Lt Phans' Garage after his wife scooted to work. Other 'Good Officers' turned her in by the way. Three days were dished out and apparently the Phan's and Kline's hit for the Caribbean together, couple of weeks after this. No morale problem there. Yesterday we went into what a younger officer had heard was going around the station currently. Apparently an officer had spotted his wife's photo on a cell phone and it upset him. Who knows if it's true because of the 'no comment' deal. I had bumped into a Council Member before heading out west. I asked if they are brought up to speed on particulars regarding police discipline but was told they just passed on the Mayors suggestion regarding a matter involving many thousands of dollars. They just follow the recommendations of the Mayor. Gosh, checks and balances strike me as being in order here. How can an uninformed Council make an informed decision?)

Wonder what they could have possibly been doing while she was "unavailable" for calls. (Who knows? I don't figure it makes a difference though.)

Are you people kidding me????? There are so many officers in that department who put their heart into what they do and take PRIDE in what they do- not to mention put their LIVES on the line! You ignorant small-minded individuals are so quick to blame all of the department and not just the guilty 2 parties! The rest of the officers in that department deserve a lot of respect and should NOT be judged by the actions of 2 people who obviously are a disgrace to their families and co-workers. I 100% support our chief in making the right call for discipline and I %100 support the other officers. Grow up and complain about something else! Those officers might have to take a bullet for you someday and the ones I know wouldn't even hesitate!!! (Now-Now, lets not name call. It would seem like you 100% support the police who are hanging around waiting to take a bullet for you. Would you agree that we train our officers so they don't have to take a bullet for you? Hold our communities finest to high standards and have them learn from their mistakes? To be of the community and not above it? To be treated like others in all walks of life? As taxpayers do we not have certain rights to know how thousands of dollars are slipping out of the City Coffers?)

Menacing with Authority

Doesn't it shift ya into a high-octane frenzy? They were talkin' "it could never happen". Nope, Rudes' stories are not believable. Now it's like, "Good God in heaven . . . how'd he know?" I've been screaming like a Banshee gone completely stark mad because you see, I've waltzed all over that thin blue line.

Now it's like this tidbit and that tidbit of info slips out. Is it true? Who knows! A young patrolman got a hold of me and said it's hush-hush . . . even around the station. But he heard the Lts' wife was snooping in his cellphone and encountered pictures. Yes . . . them kinda pictures. The kind that can cause an otherwise soft spoken gal to roar like a lioness. So she starts scrolling through 'em. Hell hath no fury like a women scorned. She scrolls and scrolls until, it's like, hey wait, I know this girl. She is married to . . . oh what's his name. That young cop. Anyways, she shows this buck-a-roo the picture and says."You know her------right? Suddenly we learn Hell hath no fury like a patrolman scorned. This officer marches into Chief Nincompoops office temporarily interrupting his morning read of the sports section. He loves them Packers and has to know if Arron Rodgers is injured. That would ruin his week. This officer howls like a a coyote gnawing his leg off to get outta a trap, "It's either the Lt or me! One of us is leaving this Department! This causes Chief Nincompoop to wonder what a real Chief would do. The kind that have training and stuff. He clears his throat and sprinted to the City Attorney's Office at speeds that would have made Jordy Nelson proud.

Here's the deal. If communities didn't constantly play around with Data Practices and didn't scurry like so many angry piss ants when 'Bad' or 'Horny' behavior manifests itself we wouldn't have this guessing game going on. I mean, citizens wanna know, they have rights, don't they? Get real, "City officials declined to comment on the agreement and give more details on the complaint." I mean . . . why?!? Like my GrandMamma used to say . . . "Oh Curt, Why ya being so quiet? Come now, out with it . . . WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?"
